| The darkest color is the the puppy´s ground color. The light spots are the merle patterns.Merle is NOT a color!! What happens with the colors and patterns from the newborn stage and until they must be registered on the genetic correct color only seven weeks old? The father is black/tan merle, no chinchilla. The mother is "english cream" and carry black/tan. |

Is breeding to color complicated? Yes, it is if you step outside the common way of colors concerning the FCI german standard. Is it exiting working with colors? Yes, it is. For novice breeders? NO, stay away and learn all about color genetics! . You leave the "safe" common colors and have to remain to the recessive and dominate traits outside the common nordic color genetics. What is the challenge? To understand the genetics, and registrate the dog on correct color . FCI dachshund breed standard do not axept registration on other colors outside the german FCI standard. Where can I learn about color genetics? I don´t know, buy books. A color can very easily be changed the next generation - if you have learned how color works.. |
